On Dec. 12, 2017, the US Patent and Trademark Office granted a patent for a method for displaying internet history in digital form on a web browser.
This means that users can look up historical facts like who owned which business, or the history of a particular city, using a web-based search engine.
This history is available for all to look up.
The patent states that the history is displayed “as a set of links and links to a number of other links” and is accessible by anyone.
A user can also select specific facts to be displayed.
Google has since released a Chrome extension called History Timeline that lets users easily add a history page to their desktop.
It’s currently available only for Chrome and Firefox, but Google says that it will soon support Chrome, Firefox, and OS X. In 2017, history was the hot topic of discussion when President Donald Trump announced that the US was pulling out of the Paris climate agreement.
