PBS announced on Tuesday that it will air a documentary titled The Pawnbrokers: The Real Story Behind the Greatest Fraud in History.
The project, directed by David E. Schilling, features interviews with some of the world’s most prominent pawnbrokers including Paul Otellini, who is a former president of the International Association of Professional Ciphers and the former head of the American Pawning and Money-Laundering Commission.
Schiller also interviewed Peter Sellers, who led the U.S. Pawn Brokers in the early 1980s and became the first African-American to serve as the chief executive of the U.
“The Pawnsons’ book is titled “Pawnbroking: A History.
The project will be followed by an episode about the early years of Pawnparties and the Uptown Pawn Show, which premiered on PBS in 1983.”
